Tony Franken advising Mark SchwarzerDunsborough junior players and their coaches will have the chance to benefit form the best Goalkeeping coach in Australia at a exclusive clinic to be held on the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Saturday 21st of February.

Tony Franken, the Australian National Team's goalkeeping coach – responsible for mentoring the Australian goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer, will run a one-off session at Dunsborough Junior Soccer Club while he is in town as the special guest of the Dunsborough Seniors at their penalty shootout competition at Bootleg Brewery.

Club president Paul Andrews (himself a goalkeeper) said, “This is an incredible opportunity for those players who want to make a career in goals.


“Too many see goalkeeping as a less desirable position, but it requires lightning fast reflexes, incredible courage under fire and an ability to control play in the penalty area.

“Thanks to Dunsborough FC Senior cub president Tony Plumb (himself a former WA State goalkeeper) and his contacts we have been able to secure Franken to the club.”

All coaches are welcome to attend an pick up advice from Franken on how to develop and train young goalkeepers.

Regional development officer, Perry Krakowczyk, who will attend was stunned that Dunsborough had secured the services of such a high profile legend of the game.

Anthony (Tony) Franken (born January 11, 1965) is a former Australian soccer goalkeeper from Perth, Western Australia. He is widely considered one of Australia's best ever.

He represented Australia on 14 occasions between 1984-1992 and represented his country at Under-20 level at the 1983 World Youth Cup Finals in Mexico and at Under-23 level in 1984.

Tony started playing junior soccer for East Fremantle Tricolore before he played for many professional clubs in Australia including Sydney Croatia, APIA Leichhardt, Perth Glory, Sydney Olympic, Parramatta Eagles and Canberra City. He was awarded the NSL Under 21 Player of the Year in 1984.

He is currently on the coaching staff for the Australian national team.
